The first step is knowing your item’s Export Control Classification Number (ECCN). ECCN entries are found on the Commerce Control List (CCL) and identify reasons for control which indicate licensing requirements to certain destinations. Other reasons an export license may be required for your shipment relate to concerns about the parties to the transaction and the end use of the item.

Duties that are imposed in order to counter the negative impact of import subsidies to protect domestic producers are called countervailing duties. In cases foreign producers attempt to subsidize the goods being exported by them so that it causes domestic production to suffer because of a shift in domestic demand towards cheaper imported goods, the government makes mandatory the payment of a countervailing duty on the import of such goods to the domestic economy. This raises the price of these goods leading to domestic goods again being equally competitive and attractive. Thus, domestic businesses are cushioned. These duties can be imposed under the specifications given by the WTO (World Trade Organization) after the investigation finds that exporters are engaged in dumping. These are also known as anti-dumping duties.

STP stands for Segmentation , Targeting and Positioning. STP plays an important role to get to your right customer. All three (segmentation, targeting and positioning) are tools to align your products with the right customers.

  • Segmentation : Classifying your customers on some basis like demographically, behaviour, geographically etc.
  • Targeting: Marketing to a particular segment of the market/group of customers
  • Positioning : Basically it means building a brand image in the mind of the customer Here are the reasons why it is important for business:
  1. Segmentation splits buyers into groups with similar needs and wants to "best utilize a firm's finite resources" through buyer based marketing.
  2. Attract the right customer.
  3. Reduce risk in deciding where, when, how, and to whom a product will be marketed.
  4. Increase marketing efficiency by directing effort specifically toward the designated segment in a manner consistent with that segment's characteristics
  5. Helps in customer retention.
  6. Customer delight.
  7. Reduce the cost of the company by not marketing the product where its not required.
